Hello! My eight-year-old has just been introduced to D&D by a friend, and is very interested in starting to play. Do you have any recommendations for finding or starting a group that would be a good fit for him? He's very imaginative and adores Fantasy and Science Fiction worlds, and has a high tolerance for stories with tension and peril. But he still has the general maturity of an eight-year-old, and I don't want to foist him on your regular group if that's going to be a drag. Also, 9:00 is super late for him.
The friend who taught him is moving to Taiwan this week (the friend's name is Luca and he's attended your D&D night in the past), and I don't know of any other kids who play.
I'll be in the store later this week to buy him a starter kit and some books, but I thought I'd give this forum a try. I'd really like for him to be able to pursue playing D&D, but I've never played myself and am kind of clueless. How does an elementary-school age kid get started with a group?

I've had some local gamers with younger kids asking about doing some kind of kids' RPG session, I'll reach out to them and see if that's something they are into.

I was telling Tony that I'd be be happy to run Numenera. It is D&D w/ tech hybrid, and the rules are simple and stories are rich.
My son would join and perhaps others. The game is story itensive but not rules heavy. Numenera is a winner.
Let me know. I can be reached here or at just DOT berman AT gamil DOT com.

That sounds fun! Thanks for the offer. We are out of town from June 27-July 12, but I will drop you a line when we return.
I just bought my son a D & D players' manual today, so that should fuel the obsession while we're away. He'll probably suck his 7-year-old cousin into it, too.
