I am not a fan of Version 4 and there is a steep learning curve in learning this new ruleset. This ruleset is a complete change of the game. They just made the game into a skirmish game. Version 2 to 3 was a good update to the game. Version 4 is a complete animal on its own.
I will withdraw from the tournament. I spent allot of money with battlefront to build a Late War Japanese tank company. It's completely worthless to play in version 4. I am not buying into version 4. I am willing to play version 3 of the rules. Version 4 is DOA.

The Deep reserves for a tank company are auto lose in a tournament when you roll off and the tank company is the defender. You only get to deploy one tank unit to defend against an attacker. Joy Joy with Version 4. I only play Tank companies in tournaments. So Version 4 DOA for me. I will stay home with my tank companies.

Version 2 to 3 was a good update to the game. Version 4 is a complete animal on its own. It is your decision, but I completely disagree. It is still FOW and the changes are good and for the most part make the game more historical. Have you tried actually playing a few battles of v4 yet?

I encourage you to give it a try, my test games went very well, tank companies are still viable.

I'll post this here as well, but I think it resolves the concern Will mentioned above:
Given that the base rulebook has limited scenarios, the More Missions PDF seems to be the best guideline for experienced players and tournaments.
Interestingly enough on the "Random Mission" table they completely exclude the defensive battles, saying the following "As the three defensive battles (Bridgehead, Rearguard and No Retreat) are best suited to having an infantry-based force defending, we haven't included those in the random missions list to avoid disadvantaging a tank-based force". I think that's as clear a guideline as a TO might want.
Additionally if you have a Tank Company and you are using Battle Plans from the same PDF, which seems like a good system and includes all battles, as long as you choose Prepared Attack you will _never_ be the defender in a Defensive battle. So that entire problem is not actually an issue in both officially recommended methods for choosing missions.

Thanks, guys! I am hoping to make the May 6th event, but no promises yet. Jamie Struck and I have been playing a lot of Team Yankee, and really enjoying it. So far, I like the changes in V4, and look forward to seeing how it develops. I think the system will be much more accessible to new players, which is also a huge benefit.

Would love to have you both attend. I know you each have, or had, desert armies. Time to crack those bad boys out for a new clash in the Blasted Landscape. Please post any questions you have and hope to see you on the 6th.

Hey all, the tournament has been rescheduled to allow folks more time to get familiar with the new rules set and to learn the nuances of V4. I want everyone to feel comfortable going into the tournament, and pushing it back into the summer will allow for ample play test time, as well as let folks stock up on any new kits coming out for MW, if they so desire. The times of the tournament will still be the same, as well as the specifics on the point build and mission break down, just the date is changing. Thank you all, and please post any questions and/or concerns.
-Jeff

Hello all, sorry for the long delay between posts, but wanted to touch base with folks as the 29th is fast approaching. Here are some updates. Participants will need to download a copy of the V4 expanded missions pack with the battle plan chart which will be used during the tournament. This seems to be an efficient way of handling mission selection in the new rules setting. There will also be official prize support from Battlefront, just waiting to hear back as to any details on the prizes available. I've requested new product related to the North Africa theater, time will tell. We also have some amazing trophies donated by Jose Anes for the tournament, along with some beautiful objective markers to go with the trophies. Please post any questions you may have and be sure to send me your army lists when you have them available. See you all on the 29th. -Jeff www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=5507

Sorry guys, more family issues this week mean that I can't make it this weekend. Wish I could be there.
If any of you are willing to drive a couple of hours and get together on a weekend day in SW VT for some v4 or v3 FOW, please drop me a line. I could host two tables here.
Ironically I've been up in Lebanon fairly frequently this year, just mainly during the week as I've been shuttling my mom to the hospital and back so there's never really a chance to do much more than drive by. Hope to be able to drive up there and game again later this year.

Phasestar is not a revelation. I think it's been the same the last 6 years for a tournament. Just hoping you would show up for a tournament you sign up for. Phasestar is a dud for tournaments.
